Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was born on 25th January 1948 in Al Ain, Trucial States, now the United Arab Emirates. He is the president of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Abu Dhabi – referred to as Sheikh Khalifa – and the commander of the Union Defence Force.

His assets include 66 acres on the Seychelles main island of Mahe, apparently on which to build a palace. It’s estimated that the combined assets of the family Al Nahyan total more than $150 billion.

Khalifa bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was educated and trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. After his studies were finished, he began his career as the mayor of the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi in 1966. At that time his father, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruled the whole of the area known as Abu Dhabi. Three years later, Sheikh Khalifa was titled the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Head of the Abu Dhabi Department of Defense, later renamed the UAE Armed Forces. After the political situation had changed, and the independence of the United Arab Emirates was established, the position of Sheikh Khalifa was changed to the Prime Minister of Abu Dhabi. At the same time, he held the positions of Minister of Finance as well as Minister of Defense of Abu Dhabi. At the end of 1973, the Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates was reconstructed, and as a consequence Sheikh Khalifa was appointed to the positions of the Chairman of Executive Council of Abu Dhabi and 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. What is more, he was appointed the deputy commander of the UAE armed forces in 1976.
In addition to this, Sheikh Khalifa has headed the Supreme Petroleum Council since the late 1980s to the present. In 2004, when the president his father Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan died, he succeeded to his posts, as he had already taken those positions during the illness of his father. Undoubtedly, all the positions held by Sheikh Khalifa have assisted in adding to the overall amount of his net worth.
Recently, it has been reported that Sheikh Khalifa had a stroke and was operated on successfully in 2014. Apparently he has recovered, and his health condition is reported as good. All other reports on mass/media concerning his health condition were regarded as rumours.
Regarding the personal life of Sheikh Khalifa, he is married to Shamsa bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, and the family has two sons.
Sheikh Khalifa has done a lot in the field of philanthropy, having contributed more than $460 million from his personal net worth for various humanitarian projects. He has funded the Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Pancreatic Cancer Center, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Specialty Institute for Cancer Diagnosis, the UAE Pakistan Assistance Program and the Khalifa Award for Education.
